Dear ISDCI colleagues

It is with great sorrow that we let you know the sad news that our friend and colleague, Rene Stet died last week on 12th September following a sudden but serious illness. His wife, Noortje was with him and his children, Niels and Sanne, had been over to Aberdeen to see him. Rene was a long-standing member of ISDCI, serving as Education Secretary from 1997 to 2000 and then as Vice President Europe from 2003. Many of us came to know him well as a dear friend through his regular participation in our international meetings and we shall miss his warmth, joviality and sense of fun very greatly. He was a fine man and an inspired scientist and his passing is a tragic and grievous loss. Our thoughts and condolences go out to his family and his workmates in Aberdeen. An obituary will be published in DCI in due course but meanwhile any of you wishing to offer tributes, to share your memories or to offer photographs are invited to send them to L.Courtney Smith (csmith@gwu.edu) for collation and later publication in our eboard and on our ISDCI website. We would appreciate it if you could send your tributes before the end of October so they may be included in our November eboard.
