ISDCI X CONGRESS NEWS BULLETIN

ISDCI E-Board Number 40
APRIL 2006

Dear ISDCI Colleagues

ISDCI X CONGRESS UPDATE News Bulletin

Please remember the deadline for reduced rate (early registration) is 20th APRIL. After this, registration will still be open but the higher rate applies to the registration & accommodation package.

ISDCI CONGRESS BURSARIES
The deadline for submission ISDCI pre/post doc Congress Bursary applications has now passed. No further applications can be accepted. Applicants whose applications have been received have been sent an acknowledgement. IF YOU HAVE SUBMITTED AN APPLICATION BUT NOT RECEIVED AN ACKNOWLEDGMENT FROM ME (VAL SMITH), PLEASE CONTACT ME IMMEDIATELY BY E-MAIL (vjs1@st-andrews.ac.uk).

All submissions are now being processed. Once we know the amount of funds available, the allocations can be made. I hope to send information about funding to all applicants as soon as possible, hopefully in early May.

ABSTRACT SUBMISSION
It is not too late to submit any late-breaking Abstracts. The website is staying open for the submission. While late-submitted abstracts will be accepted, the Organisers MAY NOT be able to schedule for Oral Presentations. However, they guarantee acceptance as Posters.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR INTENDING DELEGATES WHO HAVE ALREADY SUBMITTED ABSTRACTS
It appears that there may be incompatibility of the WorldAqua software for uploading Abstracts with the web browers used by some authors. This means that some Abstracts have not reached Congress Organisers and are being missed by the organisers. If you have submitted an Abstract but have not received an Email with a submission confirmation number, your Abstract may not have loaded properly. If you suspect that this has happened to you, please send an Email (ATTACHING ABSTRACT) to John Cooksey who is overseeing the Congress website.

TRAVEL INFORMATION FOR CHARLESTON Charleston has become, in the last few weeks, a more expensive destination. This is because Charleston lost service from a low-cost carrier (Independence Air) that went out of business. If the airfares you are quoted for Charleston seem high, you might want to consider flying to a nearby airport and renting a car. The relevant alternative airports for a fly/drive option might be: (driving time indcated in hours)

Myrtle Beach, SC, 100 miles, 2 hours

Columbia SC, 120 miles, 2.5 hours

Savannah, GA, 120 miles, 2 hours

Charlotte NC, 200 miles, 3.5 hours

Atlanta GA, 320 miles, 5 hours

Orlando FL, 390 miles, 6 hours

NB If you take the fly/drive option, MapQuest <http://www.mapquest.com/> is a good source of maps and driving directions.
Please note that the Charleston Place Hotel has a $12/day charge for parking.

GENERAL CONGRESS ENQUIRIES.
Please send any enquiries about the Congress to Greg Warr (warrgw@musc.edu) or John Cooksey (worldaqua@aol.com).
